Sidekick twists ankle at key juncture, “Kidnap” drags on for another hour
Mumbai : In a freak accident, Rahul Dev, a veteran villain known for small roles without too much dialogues, fell & twisted his ankle when he was gently pushed by a frail Imran Khan in the movie ‘Kidnap’. The entire movie theatre, preparing to file out slowly with the imminent capture of the villain was in for a rude shock, as Rahul Dev could not complete a copy book chase sequence & stop Imran Khan from jumping over a fence. As a result, the movie which could have been a relatively short affair dragged on for a good one hour more, causing great inconvenience to the ageing Sanjay Dutt & more importantly to the entire audience at PVR Multiplex.
“It was a simple move, all he had to do was grab his collar or backpack. And let us face it, Imran Khan on his meanest day would not even break his nails”, exclaimed Jacob, a die hard movie fan. A family of four from Jogeswari had almost made it to the exit door when they saw that Rahul Dev had slipped, fallen and was crying like a baby and had to walk back slowly to their seats. “In Hollywood movies, the sidekick dies a valiant death. Many a times they have to complete chase sequences even if they have only one leg. Unfortunately, our sidekicks have it easy”, said a stunt double calling himself “Rocky Raja”.
Throughout the rest of the movie, Rahul Dev was seen trying to make up, inspite of being asked “not to take it personally” and in the end, he did manage to shoot Imran Khan in the back, like a man. Trade analysts said that this failure will raise serious questions about his ability as a crack ‘corporate security expert’. Friends close to Rahul told Utopia that it was in fact Imran Khan who had pushed him too hard, causing him to fall.
Kidnap, which was initially shot as a showreel of Minissha Lamba for a swimsuit shoot, was made into a major motion picture when an ace producer saw ‘potential’. Imran Khan agreed to do an experimental role of an abused delinquent, who grows up into a polite, well behaved & introverted young man who cooks, listens to soft music, writes cryptic poetry and also does the occasional kidnapping as a hobby, under the condition that he would not do anything which could potentially damage his credentials as a chocolate hero.
A senior actress, with an uncanny resemblance to Vidya Malavade, plays Minissha’s mom and manages to maintain a curiously surprised look throughout. Sanjay Dutt had to hold in his stomach for most of the movie as his eight-pack-abs is still under construction, and as a result has an embarassed breathless expression in his face. The censor board has said that the movie is not recommended for those with faint hearts or with anything else to do.
