Emotional baggage to prove expensive

10 August 2008 3 Comments

Mumbai : In a move that was widely expected among airline circles, the pioneer of low cost aviation, Deccan announced the introduction of a surcharge on passengers carrying extra emotional baggage with them.

“As aviation becomes more accessible, we have seen that a large number of travellers are those with big emotional baggages with them. For the last few years, we let them travel but now, the cost of emotional baggage can no longer be borne by the airlines”, said Capt Gopi. A random survey done by Utopia showed that approximately 65% of domestic air passengers carry some kind of emotional baggage with them, with the most common case being – Disappointment over being voted out of a reality show.

Analysts say that this move is likely to bail out a lot of the LCCs at a time when crude oil prices are heading towards the gulf. Ramprakash, an irate passenger at Chennai airport said that this was an unfair move as traditionally South Indians have had less emotional baggage because of their predominantly vegetarian fare & inability to sing bollywood songs without an accent. “Why should we pay for something that is far more common in the North?”, he asked. He was travelling to Mumbai to prove that he is indeed smarter than a fifth grader.

I know! Emotional baggages can weigh tonnes and can add to one’s Body weight too. Even if one tries to lighten up reading ‘UTOPIA’ before a scheduled flight, the extra pounds which is already on the body cannot be shed easily. Food for thought and a new post. Sighhh….!
